For companies in brief

In today’s digital world, it is essential that everyone can access your website and online services. Digital accessibility ensures that all online content (websites, apps, and documents) can be used by everyone, including people with functional disabilities.

Accessibility is not only a legal requirement, but also the right thing to do, and good for your business. Together with you, we make sure your digital services are usable by all your customers, while ensuring compliance with legislation such as the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882).

The European Accessibility Act (EAA)

What is the European Accessibility Act?

The European Accessibility Act is EU legislation designed to improve the accessibility of products and services for people with functional disabilities. Its goal is to remove barriers and ensure equal opportunities for everyone.

Why?

The EAA was introduced to create a more inclusive society by making essential products and services accessible to all, regardless of disability.

Who must comply?

The following organisations are required to comply with the EAA:

  • Government institutions.

  • Organisations receiving more than 50% public funding.

  • Companies supplying products or services to the government.

  • Companies providing essential or financial services.

  • Organisations governed by public authorities.

Which services are covered?

  • Financial services

  • Webshops

  • ATMs and other self-service terminals

  • Smartphones

  • E-books and e-readers

  • TV and digital broadcasting services

  • Streaming services (e.g., Netflix, Videoland, Spotify)

  • Online and offline transport services (e.g., ticket machines)

  • Telecommunications services

How to comply?

All these services must meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). These guidelines were developed to make the web more accessible for everyone. Compliance can be assessed through a WCAG audit.
