You can make a lot of impact in a relatively short time with simple interventions.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>However, technical limitations can sometimes get in the way, even with digital accessibility. For example, at Cardan we chose to add the functionality for a language change later (think of words in another language, such as European Accessibility Act).\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2>Outcome 2021: website fully compliant\u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>The July 8, 2021 inspection showed that www.technobility.nl fully meets the 50 success criteria of the WCAG2.1 AA. Mueller did stress the importance of accessibility, though. It is possible that accessibility will become a ranking factor in the future, though.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Responding to the question of whether accessibility has benefits for Google ranking, Mueller said:\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cblockquote>\u003Cp>No, not really. So I think accessibility is something that is important for a website because, if you drive your users away with a website that they can’t use, then they’re not going to recommend it to other people. But it’s not something that we would pick up and use as a direct ranking factor when it comes to search. So strictly speaking, a digitally accessible website does not make you rank higher in Google. Yet we mention it regularly, and for good reason. Many of Google's requirements for "good websites" correspond to rules from the \u003Ca href=\"\u002Fkennisbank\u002Fde-wcag\">Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)\u003C\u002Fa>.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>So taking into account the WCAG requirements certainly helps. After all, the proper use of text alternatives, headings, semantic code and a clear structure helps visitors with disabilities as well as Google.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>In addition, Google itself is also paying a lot of attention to digital accessibility. At \u003Ca target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.google.com\u002Faccessibility\u002F\">Google.com\u002Faccessibility\u003C\u002Fa> you can read about what they are doing. Google itself says the following about this:\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cblockquote>\u003Cp>Everyone should be able to access and enjoy the internet. We are doing our utmost to make this happen.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Google\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fblockquote>\u003Cp>They also support all kinds of digital inclusion initiatives and research. Google employees are also actively involved in WCAG. Google's user experience researchers work closely with people from all kinds of different backgrounds and disabilities. Accessibility is also important when developing their own products.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2>Google Style Guides\u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>Google has extensive documentation that helps Google developers write documentation. However, the \u003Ca target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fdevelopers.google.com\u002Fstyle\u002Faccessibility\">Google developer documentation style guide\u003C\u002Fa>, or the Google Style Guides, can also help other developers, UX designers and content specialists create easily findable as well as accessible websites. It gives a good idea of how Google approaches the subject of digital accessibility.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Indeed, \u003Ca href=\"\u002Fkennisbank\u002Fdigitale-toegankelijkheid\">Digital accessibility\u003C\u002Fa> is an important and often recurring topic in the Google Style Guides. The key point here, according to Google, is:\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cblockquote>\u003Cp>Write documentation that is accessible to people with disabilities.\u003Cbr>\u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fdevelopers.google.com\u002Fstyle\u002Faccessibility\">Google developer documentation style guide – Accessibility\u003C\u002Fa>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fblockquote>\u003Cp>Some key tips given are:\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cul>\u003Cli>\u003Cp>Please use standard HTML elements, rather than self-built ones.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fli>\u003Cli>\u003Cp>Please do not write words entirely in capitals. I spoke to people with different disabilities, project managers of digital agencies and teachers in the ICT field.
